  1. I have several pilates vids that are very effective this one claims to target specific areas but the workouts are all incorrect and are not at all effective. The last five of the the 10 min buns part was excellent but that’s about it I had to turn the vhs off after the thighs workout that sucked. I’m so glad I just Borrowed this from the library. Not worth buying.

  2. This video assumes you know the jargon of both dance and pilates. It is not instructional. It is for people who know pilates and dance and would like a new exercise routine. There is minimal emphasis on breathing, so you better know your pilates breathing before you press play. The models wear black pants against navy mats; try to guess where your legs should be because you cannot tell what they are doing on many moves. She’s saying we have two more, and I’m still trying to figure out what she’s doing. If I wanted this type of frustration, I would have joined a health club.

I know a small bit about pilates from another video, so I was familiar with some of the terminology. But I don’t know what second pilates position is. I recognized PliĆ© from Angelina Ballerina. I thought progressive meant it would start out with an introductory session and become more advanced with each of the next three sessions. Maybe progressive means something else to pilates insiders.

No onscreen countdown. No visual or verbal indication that we are on to the next segment, so keep your watch handy. I reckon I did three of the four workouts. Why did she not mention when one ends and the next starts? And for just that small extra annoyance, yes there are ads at the beginning. So start it up, go do a chore and come back when the menu appears. Then you can watch some in-shape people do some very quick hard-to-follow routines.

  3. Since everyone wrote fantastic reviews about the style of the abs, arms, buns, thighs & total body 10 min workouts, I’ll add to the content description.

The actual pilates moves are modified to make them simpler to do. Such as the 100 the legs are bent, the bridge pose in yoga are always up & down, never sustained isometric contraction though she does have you lift a leg slightly, etc. This should be simple enough for most people who are new to workouting out or getting back into it. If that is still a bit much, there is a woman who shows modifications such as crunches with only bent legs, she doesn’t even raise her head.

The speed of the go is quite brisk, but at the constraint of 10 min & there are many fantastic moves, each go is only done a few times before moving on, which is excellent for ones you despise, but sucks for ones you like. Though you can always rewind & redo the ones you delight in. She doesn’t tell you when to breathe, but since I’ve only seen a couple dvds on pilates, I had no problem figuring out how to go, though very first timers may need to watch it first before trying.

I do like Liz Gilles, she’s friendly w/o being chatty, fantastic cues & she shows fantastic body awareness on what moves are right after the other for best balance workout & stretch so you don’t get spasms as well. Liz Gillies has fantastic body awareness on what feels right & what go would balance out the body next. She has a past scholarship in dance school, ballet as a child, etc. She gives fantastic cues for proper body posture, excellent timing in giving them & fantastic sunny personality like a excellent friend w/o being fake or perky while doing it.

I wouldn’t suggest this to anyone who works outs regularly for long time or is athletic unless for light days.

  4. I”m new to Pilates and I found this very user-friendly. I’ve been working out for years with the traditional aerobic and strength training, with Kathy Smith being my favorite. I chose to try this because of the 10 minutes that it takes to do a work-out (2 children under 3) I like the ab work-out! After doing it for a 3 week period I really saw my abs in there under the flab. I quit early on the arms but am determined to try again. Also, there’s a few butt cracks in the video. I found this amusing and made me wonder ‘did they watch this before they place it out on dvd?’
All and all I’ll continue to do this work-out. It won’t be collecting dust and that’s what is most vital.

  5. I normally dislike pilates, and find the routines dull. BUT I knew I needed a pilates or yoga video to help stretch me out and work out all the kinks while still getting a fantastic workout. I found it! I like this dvd, the music is excellent as are the background exercisers.. I like the overall “feel” of the workout, even down to the set. Liz Gillies is motivating without being annoying, and once you learn the moves you can start them while she is explaining them to get more workout in. I either complete the entire 50 minutes, or add them on to my higher intensity cardio vids. Highly recommended, I wish more people knew about this one..
